Firecracker Straw Container

Firecracker Straw Container-JMRush
Approximate Container size: W 3” X H 11” D 3” (Actual container dimensions W 2.5” X H 8” D 2.5” without wick, base, and star)

This container features an attached lid and a large base for stability. This design is perfect for holding straws (8” H) for your Fourth of July or Memorial Day party and doubles as a festive centerpiece. This design is compatible with both 8X12 and 12X12 mats.

1.Cut design pieces. (I used double sided card stock for the container base)
2. Flip the container base over (pretty side down). Apply glue just under the slots on the right hand side.
3. Apply glue along the left vertical edge.
4. Tuck the tabs into the slots by rolling the container base. Allow the glue to dry and secure.
5. Fold the score lines in the base edge piece.
6. Flip the base edge over (pretty side down). Apply glue to just under the tab at the top and above the slot at the bottom.
7. Tuck the tab into the slot by rolling the base edge piece. Secure and allow to dry.
8. Center the open circle piece over the base edge piece and wiggle it down to the bottom of the base edge piece by the tabs. ( It will be a snug fit:)
9. Apply glue to the outside of the tabs and secure down to the open circle that you just placed on the base edge piece.
10. Apply glue on the circular surface of the combined base edge piece. Secure the solid circle to the combined base edge piece.
11. This is what it should look like.
12. Apply glue to the tall part of the base edge piece.
13. Slip the container over the combined edge base piece until the base edge piece is completely inside of the container. Allow the glue to dry.
14. Roll the wick piece so that it is cylinder like. I used a marker to form it’s shape.
15. Apply glue to the inside just under the slot and along the edge under the tab.
16. 17. Tuck the tab into the slot and allow to dry. ( I used the marker again to help form the cylinder shape)
18. Push the tabs of the wick up.
19. Feed the wick through the opening in the combined container. I went from the inside through to the top. Align the seam of the wick with the seam of the container.-Toward the back.
20. Apply glue to the tabs and secure to the inside of the lid.
21. Apply glue to the backside of the larger ( but has a smaller center hole) circle. Secure to the inside of the lid lining up the flat sides of the outside of the circle.
22. This is what it should look like.
23. Apply glue to the backside of one of the stars. Secure to the other star. ——Optional: Apply glue to the smaller circle ( with a larger center hole) and secure to the top of the lid- lining up the straight edge of the outside of the circles.
24. Feed the star through the wick and fill with straws. Finish with ribbon or twine.
